The Advisory Trust Company of Delaware

The Advisory Trust Company of Delaware (Advisory Trust) provides directed trustee, trust administration, and back-office services for high-net-worth individuals and families. We work exclusively with professional advisors, assisting them in helping their clients achieve their financial goals by using the full range of trust strategies available under Delaware law.

Advisory Trust is part of the Wilmington Trust corporate family, which has been in the wealth management business for 105 years, serving as trustee and advisor for prominent individuals, families, and foundations. Founded in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1903 by T. Coleman du Pont, one of the great industrialists and entrepreneurs in our nation's history, Wilmington Trust currently serves wealth advisory clients in all 50 states and 36 countries.

Advisory Trust has offices in Wilmington, Delaware, and Phoenix, Arizona, and currently oversees approximately $1.3 billion in assets for more than 1,200 personal trust accounts, providing tax and administration services.

What We Do

Advisory Trust provides all of the services of a traditional trust company with one important distinction: We do not provide investment management services for marketable securities held in a trust. The professionals of Green Leaf Financial, your trusted financial advisor, fills that role.

Advisory Trust can serve as trustee and offer administration services for virtually any type of personal trust, including revocable and irrevocable trusts, whether testamentary or inter vivos, as well as charitable trusts, and irrevocable life insurance trusts. While each trust is unique and managed to its specific terms, our administrators typically perform some or all of the following services:

  • Document review to assure compliance with all trust provisions
  • Calculation and disbursement of income and other distributions
  • Management of discretionary disbursements with sensitivity and compassion
  • Preparation of annual accountings for court supervised accounts
  • Preparation, review, and filing of fiduciary tax returns
  • Annual asset valuation
  • Coordination with attorneys, accountants, and financial advisors
  • Preparation of quarterly trust reports
  • Comprehensive file documentation
  • Recordkeeping and tax reporting
  • Comprehensive communication with grantors, beneficiaries, and their advisors via statements, meetings, and other correspondence

Green Leaf Financial manages the investments in your trust on a daily basis, for discretionary trusts, Advisory Trust retains the fiduciary responsibility for those investments. Accordingly, we work closely with Green Leaf Financial to develop an investment policy statement and investment strategy consistent with the terms of the trust.
